Fire detection for engine compartment of automotive

 Testing arrangement:

 
V1: Room on approx. 80° C preheated, with ventilation 
- The thermo switches have reacted within 2 minutes, most of the seven switches have reacted within 1 -1.5 minutes, the latest after 2 minutes.
- It was a homogeneous Temperature distribution in the room with temperatures of approx. 400 degrees Celsius. 
V2: Room on approx. 80° C preheated, without ventilation 
- The last thermo switches reacted after about 2.5 minutes.
- The temperature was measured by thermocouples on four different places within the room and established a very different distribution of the warmth. It was as expected very hot over the flame and cooler at the edge areas. The consequence was that three of the sensors were destroyed (at about 800 degrees Celsius) because the gas turning off happened only after the switching of the last sensor.
V3: Room not preheated, with ventilation
- The thermo switches reacted within 2 minutes.
- The remaining four switches were tested, placed in the former positions.
V4: Room not preheated, without ventilation
- The thermo switches reacted within 1 minutes.
- The temperatures were a little higher than in the previous test (at the same gas promoting current).

Remarks:

The demanded air change rate of 3 m ³/s couldn't not be realised. The Ventilation being at our disposal has been able to produce only a low current of air and provided it much more to guarantee a homogeneous distribution of the warmth in the room.

With an air change rate of 3 m³/s the sensors should probably be placed in the air exhaust area where in case of fire the heat will be led away.
